John J. Cernik, age 70, former resident of Grafton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at his home with his family by his side in Lakeland, Florida. Services were held Saturday, Aug. 20, at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home at Serenity Gardens in Lakeland.
Jack was born July 4, 1952, to Lloyd and Blanche Cernik. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Grafton High School in 1970. He attended Devils Lake Junior College where he met his wife Sherry. They were united in marriage on May 11, 1973, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Grafton. While living in Grafton, Jack co-owned CB&L Construction and Cernik Brothers Trucking. In 1989, he moved his family to Lakeland, where Jack continued to work long, hard hours as a truck driver. After 49 years of providing for his family, Jack had just retired in October 2021 from Saddle Creek Logistics.
Jack will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Sherry; his children: Holly Miller (Michael), Michele Shute, Michael Cernik (Virginia) and Jenny Johnston; his grandchildren: Sean Soden, Chad Johnston, Lauren Shute, Anna Shute, Briana Miller and Mya Miller. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Cernik; sisters, Mary Jane Ferguson, Susan Barsness, Janet Gerszewski and Monica Gorder.
He is reunited in heaven with his parents, Lloyd and Blanche Cernik; his brother, Eugene Cernik; and his sister, Judy O’Toole.
