Alfred Hanson, 95, of Park River and formerly of Mountain, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 202 1 , at Good Samaritan Center of Park River.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Vikur Lutheran Church in Mountain with burial at Mountain Cemetery.
Alfred G. Hanson was born June 16, 1926, to John and Aurora (Olgeirson) Hanson in Thingvalla Township. He attended school until the eighth grade, when he began farming with his family. He also worked in HVAC repair during his younger years. On May 16, 1969, he married Hope (Indridason) Byron. They made their home on the family farm and owned the Mountain Cash Store. He continued to farm and began working at the PAR site in Cavalier, retiring after 30 years.
He was a lifelong member of Vikur Lutheran Church, served on the board of directors for the Mountain Cemetery and Borg Pioneer Memorial Home and was a lifelong member of Tongue River Lodge No. 22 of Cavalier.
He is survived by his children: Candice (Bob) Strand, Hazen, Pandora Hemsher, Rapid City, South Dakota, Nadine (Dale) Carr, Wheatland, Wyoming, Tyrone Byron, Mountain, Dwight (Elaine) Byron, Park River, and Fred (Juanita) Byron, Anchorage, Alaska; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Jon “Mayo” Byron; brother, Pearcy; and three grandchildren.
