Thomas A. Townson, 76, of Devils Lake and formerly of the Park River/ Grafton area, was found on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, in rural Starkweather.
Thomas Allen Townson was born April 7, 1944 in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, son of Ephriam and Ceclia (Burchard) Townson. He was raised in Cumberland Mountains, Tennessee. Tom moved to Park River in 1961.
Thomas worked as a truck driver for Johnson Potatoes of Park River. He then went to work for Broder Construction and then worked in maintenance at the State School, both in Grafton. Tom retired in 1990.
Thomas married Joy Luehring on April 4, 1998. They lived in Grand Forks before moving to Devils Lake in 2000. While Joy worked for Lake Chevrolet, Tom kept busy by chopping and selling firewood in the Lake Region.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Joy, Devils Lake; sister, Shirley Hart of Bismarck; stepsister, Mary Ann Lerud ( Len Peterick), Grand Forks; sister-in-law, Janice Townson (Andy Nupdal), Park River; brother-in-law, Randy ( Julie) Luehring, Grand Forks; two sons, Scott and Jeff, and a daughter Bonnie, from previous marriages; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Townson; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Dorothy Luehring.

Funeral services for Tom were held on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, with Reverend Jim Paulson, pastor of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, officiating.
