Deprived by the COVID-19 pandemic of what would have been a typical commencement ceremony on Friday evening, May 22 in a packed Crookston High School gymnasium, the graduating seniors in the CHS Class of 2020 were instead celebrated with a parade around the Crookston community Friday afternoon.

The parade was organized in the CHS west parking lot and everyone departed shortly after 1 p.m., led by Crookston firefighters, police and emergency responders. Some of the graduates were driven around by parents and friends, while some drove themselves, many of them in decorated vehicles. As they drove and honked their way around town, with sirens sometimes blaring, the graduates were greeted by many people who came out to cheer them on with signs and wish them well.

Plans are underway for an in-person commencement ceremony on July 25. More details on that will be forthcoming as the date approaches and social distancing guidelines become more clear.
