14th Annual Lions Fishing Derby set for Aug. 17

The 14th Annual Thief River Falls Lions Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Thief River and Red Lake River in and around Thief River Falls.

Over $20,000 in raffle and tournament prizes will be awarded. The tournament includes three fish categories – Walleye, Northern and Other – with the top 10 in each category receiving prizes. Fourth through 10th place in each category will receive a rod and reel combo. The third place finisher in each category will receive $250. Second place will receive $500 and each category winner will walk away with $1,000.

Register at Ace Hardware and Edward Jones-Pat Thibert or by mail with registration forms and complete rules at www.trflions.org. A total of 75 boat passes are available for $5 each, and they may be purchased at Edward Jones-Pat Thibert or Ace Hardware.

Registration/check-in will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., with a rules meeting to follow at 8:30 a.m. at the Huck Olson Memorial Civic Center. Fishing will be from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. on the Thief and Red Lake rivers.

The live weigh-in will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the HOMCC. The awards presentation and raffle drawing will be held at 5 p.m. This year, one lucky ticket holder will play High 5 Money Bags, with a chance to win one of the following prizes: $50,000 toward the purchase of a new boat from Bemidji Marine, $5,000 cash, $1,000 cash, or $250 cash. Must be present to win.
