An unveiling ceremony of the soon-to-be refurbished basketball court at Bill LaFave Park will be held Monday, July 1 from 4 to 5 p.m.
Thief River Falls was one of four cities selected to have outdoor basketball courts refurbished by the Minnesota Timberwolves organization’s “Our Courts. Our Future” court refurbishment program, presented by U.S. Bank, earlier this year.
The city was the North Division winner of the program, defeating Grand Rapids and Erskine in online voting to have its basketball court refurbished.
In an email to voters, Thief River Falls Public Works Director Mark Borseth wrote: “Our court is the first one to be refurbished this year by the Timberwolves in Minnesota, and from what I understand received more votes than any other court in the running statewide.”
Work on the court is expected to begin later this week and through the weekend to be complete by Monday’s unveiling ceremony.
Food and refreshments will be available at the ceremony. Timberwolves representatives will be on hand to discuss their mission and this project.
The Timberwolves will also holding a mini-camp for 50 age 8 to 14-year-old Thief River Falls basketball players immediately following the ceremony. The TRF Backcourt Club is handling mini-camp arrangements.
Other division winners in the program included Central Division – Lindbergh Elementary in Little Falls; South Division – Independence Park in Marshall; and Twin Cities – Madsen Park in Fridley.
