Donald F. Dusek

Donald F. Dusek, age 78 of Park River, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.
Donald Dusek was born June 16, 1940 near Conway, ND, the son of the late John and Mathilda (Kotaska) Dusek. He graduated from Pisek High School and went to college in Minneapolis for one year. He worked in potato houses and drove truck for Gene Larson and was his friend for life. He hauled gravel for Clair Clemetson in 1959 and Clair sold him the gravel business in 1963 which he named Dusek Sand & Gravel. He married Pauline Houska in Pisek, ND on November 19, 1966. They lived in Pisek and raised their three children. He purchased the Park River Concrete Plant and Grafton Concrete Plant in 1981. His next venture was to become part owner of the Northern Mushroom Farm in Park River until 1988. In 1993 his friend from Kansas asked him to come and start a rock crushing business, so his wife and son packed up everything and moved to Kansas. He had a 4 year contract and after that ended he purchased a gravel business in Wall Lake, IA. After 6 months, and employee wanted to buy the business, so he sold out again and moved back to Park River. He bought equipment and gravel pit and started all over again until a friend offered to buy the equipment if he would move it to Las Vegas and come work for him, which he did. He worked there until he sold the business. He owned a gravel pit by Edinburg and drover there nearly every day to see what was happening. Up until the day he died he was still thinking of things to do. Donald was a hard-working, driven man, who loved the gravel business, visiting with people, his family and God.
He is survived by his wife Pauline, Park River, ND, daughter Sherry (Paul) O’Toole, Crystal, ND, son Kenny (Susan) Dusek, Park River, ND, grandchildren: Cassandra (Chris) Martinson, Kayla, James, Bethany and Christine O’Toole, Jonathan Dusek, Karen, Brandyn and Jaycob Chandler, brother: Len (Debra) Dusek, nephews Lynn and Lee (Teresa) Dusek, brother-in-law John (Jackie) Houska, sister-in-law Jeanie Houska, nephew Brent Houska and niece Macy Houska.
