As the local Director of the Bismarck-Mandan Scholarship Pageant (Cara’s local pageant title prior to winning Miss North Dakota), Nekoma-native Aly Wilhelmi Downs was at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, waiting for the in-person suspenseful announcement. When “Miss North Dakota, Cara Mund!” was announced by Chris Harrison, the whole venue and especially the North Dakota section erupted in cheers, tears, and hugs all around. Those who know Cara know she is a genuine, intelligent, determined, and talented young lady with a heart to serve others. “North Dakotans have every reason to rally behind Cara and be incredibly proud of what a wonderful role model she is for young women,” said Downs.

When asked about the best piece of advice she would give to a young girl considering competing in a pageant, Cara stated, “Do it because you will never know what you will gain from it until you try!” Cara’s hard work ethic coupled with an amazing local pageant board, supportive parents, and enthusiastic sponsors helped her get Miss North Dakota ready and quickly Miss America ready. “It was her goal to win Miss North Dakota in June; she shattered the goal by not only winning the title but also every area of competition which includes interview, talent, swimsuit, and evening gown,” said Downs. Cara’s platform is Make-A-Wish Passion with Fashion, and she has raised nearly $80,000 to fund wishes for wish children in North Dakota. While her Miss America duties will take her across the country, Make-A-Wish and the national Miss America platform of Children’s Miracle Network are two causes near and dear to her heart.
